You can adjust almost every aspect of the game to your liking. Adjust spawn counts, loot raritys, event rarity, and more to create the post apocalypse of your dreams.

Barricade buildings or find your self somewhere in the wilderness to escape to.
Weather and day/night cycles, be careful.
