AnkerGames is community-funded: donations and memberships pay for the servers, storage and bandwidth behind every download, and the monthly goal is shown on this page. What contributions do not cover, a small amount of advertising that we manage ourselves makes up. Our community chose that in a Discord poll over routing downloads through ad-heavy file hosts. We control what runs and how often, members never see it, and downloads stay free and direct with no account required.
AnkerGames actively fights against Digital Rights Management (DRM) through several key initiatives:
- Ensuring all games on our platform are DRM-free, giving players true ownership of their games without activation limits, online check-ins, or platform restrictions
- Supporting and promoting indie developers who choose to release their games without restrictive DRM, by asking our users to purchase the game after testing.
- Educating our community about the drawbacks of DRM systems including privacy concerns, preservation issues, and consumer rights
- Advocating for industry change by forcing publishers to release DRM-free versions of previously restricted titles or decreasing the massive prices
- Contributing to open-source initiatives that provide alternatives to proprietary, locked-down gaming solutions
AnkerGames challenges industry monopolies by creating a more equitable gaming ecosystem through:
- Advocating users to purchase Indie games after testing them / download them for free.
- Advocating users not to purchase games that are refusing exclusivity deals that limit player choice and fragment the gaming landscape
- Promoting cross-platform compatibility so games work regardless of operating system
