Journey

This is an experience everyone deserves, defined by both notable style and (emotional) substance, and there are hundreds of great reviews that dig into the point and synopsis of Journey, so I wont do that. I'll let you, gaming nerd, know what I think of the whole thing, cos it won't appeal to everyone. Isn't just a walking sim? Well, if it is, it's a terrible one. While not on rails exactly, it is kinda and you can finish by just moving forwards and occasionally following glowing lights but there's no real expectation of you to find anything out other than what comes along the way.

So it has no actual gameplay or mechanics then? No, it absolutely does and they are deeply integrated but in such a clever way that you don't really realise, and then you realise how good the mechanics are. This game is built intrinsically, so that every sense you feel and action you take builds like an old skool game with levelling up, just far less obviously. So it's flim-flam, a highbrow indie cinema of a game then? Yeees, maybe... and also no. You definitely need to be in the mood for this type of thing but if and when you are it does gather you up in every respect and carry you along really pleasantly.
