The first is to go in with no external guide. You are going to be frustrated and confused, but again you are supposed to suffer because AM wants to suffer. This is the best way to play if you want to be immersed in the world, though you might find success limited. The other way is to use a guide, however much you use that guide is up to you, but this is the best way to play if you want to experience the narrative without being forced to suffer for eternity in figuring out how to succeed, as AM intends.
